Vastaveto Victoria’s Secret -mallien kauneusihanteelle – kuka väittää Jeremy Clarksonin tyttären Emilyn someen lisäämien ”mallikuvien” olevan jotain muuta kuin kauniita?

Autoilujuontaja Jeremy Clarksonin tytär Emily, 25, on viime aikoina ottanut vahvasti kantaa positiivisen kehonkuvan puolesta.

Sama linja jatkuu tuoreimmassa somepostauksessa, jossa Emily antaa palaa Victoria’s Secret -vaatebrändin luomaa naiskuvaa vastaan.

For a long time Victoria's Secret represented all that it meant to be beautiful in this society. Its annual show drew in millions of viewers with the world's most famous super models walking in them. The "angels", as they were known, wore their wings and a generation of women looked up to them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Friday the brand announced that the UK branch of the company had gone into administration. Last year the show, once a cornerstone of the fashion industry, was pulled. The brand blamed its dwindling ratings on the public's lack of interest in TV. But that wasn't it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The reason Victoria's Secret began to fall from grace was because we, as a society, began to challenge the ridiculous beauty standards that we'd adhered to (or broken ourselves attempting to at least), for so long. The body positivity movement gained momentum. Instagram grew and women who had been ignored and overlooked by the various industries began creating platforms for themselves. This movement was started by plus size black women for this very reason and every day I am grateful to them for that: they created a lasting change and a legacy that has changed the lives of millions of women. From body positivity, there came change. Vital change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Brands started to diversify their campaigns, they extended their sizes and hired models to reflect that. They started to became as inclusive as they should always have been. But Victoria's Secret didn't do that. They resisted the change. And look how they suffered for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am sad for the employees who's jobs are now at risk. But for all that this brands' demise represents I am ecstatic. Victoria's Secret represented a culture that I am so pleased we are moving away from. One that promoted only one type of beauty ideal. One that refused to represent it's beautiful and differing customers. One that profited on the insecurities and unhappiness of millions of women. It's exciting. Bring on the 👙 revolution xxx (extra af wings from @ilovekuccia)
