A fond farewell to Joan Staley, who died on November 24, 2019, aged 79. The pretty blonde and child prodigy was kept busy during the 1950s-60s. She worked with Elvis Presley twice, in "Kissin’ Cousins" (1964) and "Roustabout" (1966). The same year, a riding accident slowed her career down, though she continued to work sporadically until the early 1980s. • Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, her father was a minister. Her musician mother encouraged her daughters interest in music; aged three, young Joan was already practising the violin. Three years later, Joan played a bit as part of Peter Meremblum’s Junior Orchestra in "The Emperor Waltz" (1948) starring Bing Crosby. • For a time, Joan lived in Europe, accompanying her parents who were missionaries in Africa. On their return, the family settled in San Francisco, where she found a job as a secretary at a brokerage firm. • Joan joined The Little Theater in Hollywood, where from the mid-1950s, she acted in a variety of plays, which in turn, led her to feature as a guest star in such television shows as "The Untouchables", "Climax!" and "Perry Mason". In November 1958, she featured as the Playmate of the Month in Playboy magazine. • Though her TV career eclipsed her film career somewhat, she played roles in "The Bells Are Ringing" (1960), "Ocean’s 11" (1960), "The Ladies Man" (1961), "Cape Fear" (1962), "A New Kind of Love" (1963), "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" (1966) and "Gunpoint" (1966) with Audie Murphy. • She played a series regular on "The Tab Hunter Show" and as the former stripper Roberta ‘Honey Lips’ Love on the "McHale Navy" spin-off, "Broadside" (1964-65). Joan also featured on "Batman", "The Munsters" and "Dallas". • Her first husband was the producer Chuck Staley, whom she met in Paris. Her second husband, former MCA executive Dale Sheets, survives her along with their large family. • • #iusedtobeinpictures #joanstaley #actress #blonde #1950s #elvispresley #television #tabhunter #oceans11 #theladiesman #playboy #playmate #1958 #rip2019
