Laulaja-näyttelijä Geneviève Waïte on kuollut – kuuluisalta tyttäreltä koskettava muistokirjoitus

Hollywood Reporterin mukaan näyttelijä ja laulaja Geneviève Waïte kuoli nukkuessaan lauantaina Los Angelesissa. Hän oli 71-vuotias.

Hänen menestysalbuminsa Romance Is on the Rise ilmestyi vuonna 1974. Musiikkivaikuttaja Paul Gambaccini on valinnut albumin kaikkien aikojen 200 parhaan joukkoon.

Hän näytteli urallaan myös muutamissa elokuvissa ja tv-sarjoissa, kuten Mies toisesta maailmasta (1976), Joanna (1970) ja Move (1968).

Waite oli vuosina 1972 – 1985 naimisissa Mamas & the Papas -yhtyeen laulaja-kitaristin John Phillipsin kanssa. Heille syntyi kaksi lasta

Toinen lapsista on tunnettu näyttelijä ja malli Bijou Phillips, 39. Hän syntyi ennen laskettua aikaa perheen kotitalon sohvalle aprillipäivänä 1980. Phillips on esiintynyt  muun muassa elokuvissa Melkein julkkis  ja Hostel: Part II.

Our beautiful Mother Geneviève Waïte Phillips, passed away in her sleep. She was a beautiful soul, and born from another planet. Her ideas, her songs, her voice, and her heart beat to a beautiful African rhythm no one else had and I am so thankful she was able to share it. She was a light, a fairy, and a gift of a creature. The lyrics she wrote on her album were timeless and smart. Her mind was poetry and wit, her sense of humor was quick and dry. She was like a child in a way, who was too smart for her own good. My father and mother had a magical, wonderful, heartbreaking life together but they created a masterpiece of music ( Romance is on the Rise ) and I’m so honored to be their child. My mother’s role in Johanna was ground breaking for racial divides… My mother was a gift and I will miss her everyday. In everything I cook, and in everything I sing, and in everything I do without her wise guidance… My brothers and sisters are all grieving.
